- in Fugitives
During the pandemic, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do helped steer more than $10 million in federal COVID relief money to the Viet America Society, a nonprofit that was supposed to deliver meals to homebound seniors and where his daughter held top positions. He admitted taking more than $550,000 in bribes, and the U.S. Attorney called it "Robin Hood in reverse." Do is now serving five years in federal prison. A year later, the county says only about $4 million has been recovered out of more than $13 million it lost, and the nonprofit's founder is living in Taipei.
So where did the rest of the seniors' money go?
